How do you manage?

with difficulty at times!

I have those same speakers

I’m still kicking and screaming at desktop support, they said my Core i7-3770/8GB is still another month away before I can replace it.

create an “electrical fault”

But then I don’t really want that yet, I’ve got a crapload of stuff to migrate over, plus I’m still holding over to see if Skylake-EP will ever appear so I can upgrade to a workstation model. Those Xeon machines are sweet, 16GB memory plus a PCI-E SSD.

Could be worse.

Now that’s a scary picture! Happy Haloween!

I’d take Vista with Service Pack 2 any day of the week over Windows XP.
Vista SP2 is about 90% Windows 7.

Windows XP is the shit, I would gladly use that all day every day! My only issue with that setup is the screen size. I have a 22 inch and 20 inch dual monitor setup and it still sometimes feels like I do not have enough screen real estate.

why do you need to replace that?
![]() 10/31/2016 at 08:22 |

Company policy. 4 year old once the warranty runs out, it’s marked as non-compliant and we get new machines. Besides, the way these morons created the standard image, even a machine with a Xeon runs worse than my old laptop.

yeah... I support a lot of test stands running xp, on old hardware. You don’t realize how fast computers have gotten until you go back to an old one.

At least it’s not Nibby spec and on Windows 95.

That’s some outdated shit right there. Is this a mom/pop operation? Serious security holes in that setup unless it’s a closed network
![]() 10/31/2016 at 08:51 |
|
sadly no , it’s a reasonable sized operation.
as for closed network , doubtful as we need it for online ‘training’ sessions over the internet.

Helped the boss where i am figure what key-switches we need for the CNC since the keys were lost to it, it ran Win 2000 Pro. Yes, it took forever and a bit more to shut down

My dad works with a Fortune 50 company, who also happens to be the largest in their industry. They still use XP and IE8 on all their systems.
It’s both insanely expensive and a security nightmare to make a sweeping change like upgrading to 7, or even worse, 10.

I feel your struggle. We didn’t move to Windows 7 until the beginning of this year.

There’s a major Canadian retailer that still relies on DOS for their inventory system. This is comparatively modern, lol.

i work at a GM dealer , we can’t upgrade to later Windows as the GM catalogue doesn’t run on it.
can’t update to IE11 , GM’s system seems to only run on an outdated Java set-up. it’s CRAP!

And many of their stations are green and black CRT’s to boot.
